Islands We Have Visited

San Pedro, Belize

Xcalak (pronounced "Ish ca lak") was a vibrant, flourishing center for coconut production and Mexican resort that got wiped out by a hurricane in the 1950's.  It has not rebuilt.   Today, it is a sleepy little settlement with just a few hundred inhabitants.  There are two cantinas, a very small grocery store, and a Customs, Immigration office.  Supposedly, a fruit and vegetable truck runs through town each day and guided fly-fishing is the economy of the community.
